Hey everyone, its been a while since I have updated, I realize I am flooding your inboxes, so I'll keep it short and sweet.
I'm trying to use this Da to be more professional so that when I apply for conventions They can see my work and rate it as good as it really is. My work has vastly approved over the past few years, and I am super proud of where I have been going with it.
This year, I have done ACEN (anime central in Chicago) and TrotCon (a MLP convention in Ohio), and I have learned a lot from both. I am slated to do FlatCon (Local gaming convention) in October, and am trying to decide whether or not to do a couple other Pony conventions (speedycider con in Knoxville TN) and anime conventions (Con Alt Delete, chicago con in December.)

I am constantly (well, sporadically) updating my website, www.rynreid.com as I go, so please look there if you want to see some of my commissions and con reports.  I also have a facebook page for my art: www.facebook.com/RynReidCommis… that gets updated as I update my actual facebook.

Let me know if you have any questions. Commissions are open, I need to make some dollars so I can save up for a new apartment and some new art supplies. Thanks everyone!

We lost Luis in April. To my shame and misfortune, I didn't see the message from Chris or notice anything really was different.
since frost and I haven't been together for a number of years, I was always taking advantage of the knowledge he was there if i needed him he would be there.
I completely had a break down when I read Chris' post and mail. I was angry- angry that I had been so ignorant of him lately and that I hadn't even notice he had stopped responding to posts on his wall- I was angry I hadn't known sooner, and ashamed I had missed the funeral. I was upset because I think I may have come off as uncaring.
Luis was a huge HUGE part of my life for a long time. I loved everything about him, and he was always there for me if I needed him. When I was with him my art was great. We inspired each other and we had so much fun. There were some bad times, as with all relationships, but a lot of that seems insignificant now that he's not here anymore.
Oh Kitten. I miss you so much. I am a better and stronger person because you loved me. Im sorrythat we drifted apart there in the end. I have so many regrets.
But you've given me so many good memories to hold on to.
I will never forget you

In April, my grandmother died.

She has been such a big influence on me and my art. She never hesitated to give her opinions and criticism. But she never told me I wasn't good enough. She loved to brag about me to other people, too.

She was definitely a huge part of my life, and her being gone leaves a big hole in my heart.
This past weekend I traveled to the farm where she lived for a memorial service my family was given. People told lovely stories, and even relatives that didn't get along were all smiles and kindness because she always had a way of bringing us together.
I haven't really had time to mourn her properly.

I just keep doing art because I know she would want me to.

I haven't had a lot of that kind of encouragement that she always showed me, and I feel like I won't have that again. I kind of fall apart sometimes when I think of something she used to tell me, or when I'm cleaning my new apartment and come across a letter she wrote to me. She always talked to me in her letters about the weather, or something unimportant. But in their way, they were very important. it just showed how comfortable she was that she could write in a letter something she'd talk to me if i were there.

the last week of her life she was in the hospital. She asked for me. Asked my mom what I was doing and if I was okay.

It just... hurts.

Anyways.

I work about 70 hours a week and don't have much time for art. I promise soon there will be an upload of some sort, but lately all I've done is flounder. My skill hasnt abated..But i beleive my inspiration has left me.  That being said all i do recently is work, eat, bake, sleep, and work.  Oh well. It comes to me in spurts. Sigh.

So, I'm sitting here, scanning a bunch of pictures I haven't seen in years inot this computer at the computer lab. They bring up memories, and I can remember drawing every single one. The time i took, the way I though they looked.
I remember, mostly the way I feel about these pictures. they're good. They're really good. and I'm happy with them. For anyone who knows me personally, you know that its not something I usually say (out loud) because I don't want to seem arrogant or whatever.
But look at these drawings. Really look at them. I've really really improved in the more recent ones. Here's the first drawing I submitted to Deviant Art, way back in 2004. crayolasquirrel.deviantart.com…;

Can't you see how much better I've gotten?

I mean I don't wanna toot my own horn, but shit, dude. I'm awesome.
And don't even get me started on my cakes!

(yeah, I decorate cakes for a living, its what I do)

So please enjoy what I'm showing you. Its taken me a long time to get up the courage to show this stuff to people. :)

I know its been a million years since I've updated (ok so maybe since my birthday) and I've been a little out of touch with most of you. I really hope that you guys are the opposite of me and take time to read journals instead of just deleting them! Ha ha.
I've realized lately that life is too short to work a minimum wage job at wal mart and slave away for people who never appreciate it. So I've decided to start doing more with my art.
My questions for any of you that would read this:

How do you charge for commissions?
If you go to conventions to sell art, how do you prepare for that?
do you do them digital or traditional art?
and do you charge differently for that than you do online commissions?

I've been on deviant art for at least 5 if not 6 years (I am quite unsure) and everyone's prices are always different. Are they even worth it? At least for me... I don't have much confidence in my art, and thats probably a bad thing. but I'm interested in trying, and trying to get convention tables at different cons.

Any advice that you, my friends, my pcbc buddies, my family, could throw at me would be great.

Thank you!

I work all day, come home, sit down, see something that makes me want to draw, and then say, "... nah, my computer/sketchbook is in the other room. I'll draw another day."
And thats my life.
I've managed to get a few things drawn recently, such as an anniversary pic and some profile junk. but i'm working on improving myself so I'm probably not going to show that much over here, not till its all finished anyhow. That way you'll see the improvement!
I feel like Ive been losing touch with all my friends here, and for that I'm sorry.
Life is just consuming all my free time, and that doesn't leave much for me to art with.
Anyways, be patient. Eventually I'll have something worthwhile to post here. :)

It felt like Burton just wanted to make a gothy movie, and the fact that alice was involved at all was a coincidence.
He wanted to showcase the macabre, but at the price of the story. Alice seemed dazed and confused through the whole thing, and the Hatter was just.... frightening.
Her "journey of discovery" of herself seemed way too forced, like she didn't have a choice but to go through her destiny because thats the way it was.
Matt kept talking about how much anne hathaway was brilliant, but i didnt see it, and i felt the acting by Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp was just flat and unimpressive. But I've never EVER been a fan of Depp, so it might be my prejudice speaking there.
The only part about it I did like was Stephen Fry as Cheshire Cat. It was amusing. The rest just failed to placate me. :/
So dissapointed in that movie. i wasn't expecting a remake of the classic Alice, I knew it was going to be a "sequel" movie. I just expected better.
But, I have to remember that in this day in age, plot and character development don't matter as much as action, and excuses for Johnny Depp to act bonkers. All he did was act like Willy Wonka with a bit of Jack Sparrow thrown in. Which I guess would be fine if you liked either of those characters?
Again, Cheshire Cat was a brilliant animation, it was just about the only good part of that movie at all. It really made me sad.

I think what made me saddest is that people actually enjoyed it.

FFFfff.

EDIT EDIT EDIT
Not only is my computer non functioning right now, my phone is acting like a retarded monkey and turning on and off again randomly, what the hell...
And my camera screen broke.
GOD DAMN TECHNOLOGIES

So, my computer, which has had all my artwork on it for the past 7 years, spontaneously up and stopped turning on yesterday. Subsequently all who expect art from me in the near future shouldn't. I apologize profusely, and am ashamed to say I dont know if I can go on drawing without my desktop. That thing was my baby, my precious. I kept it in peak condition for 7 years, and now its just dead.
Ffff.

Yeah, BUTTTT my great and awesome friend :icondreamofcrows: is going to take a look at it this weekend. Hopefully its something that can be fixed. :)

Other than that, I was berated for not having a Christmas Sweater to wear to Josh's family Christmas. Whats up with that? I don't... I just don't wear sweaters. I dont see the point?
Gah.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Have a happy holiday, whatever you guys are celebrating out there.
